How to Effectively Reduce Anxiety

Have you been trying to find a way to reduce your anxiety? Have you found yourself contemplating things in your life, and simply increasing the amount of anxiety you are feeling?

In order to stop the snowball effect this has, you need to take action to put a stop to it. No drastic action is needed, but by making small changes you will see a major effect in reducing your anxiety level.

Try some of these tips for reducing anxiety:

1. Purchase a biofeedback mechanism. Using a biofeedback mechanism, you will be able to see the little things your body does as you begin to get anxious. It looks at and records actions like your heart rate, how much you sweat, your temperature, and the tension in your muscles. These are the types of things you would typically overlook.

By looking at the readings produced by the biofeedback mechanism, you will have a better understanding of how your body reacts to stress and be able to find ways to help yourself relax before things get out of hand.

2. Seek support from family and friends. When you feel anxious, you usually feel like you are alone in the world. You can prevent this feeling if you acknowledge your feelings and openly communicate them with the people in your life. Be sure to allow time in your schedule for friends and family.

3. Find quality counseling. You are the only one who truly knows if your anxiety is at a mild level or at a life-changing level. If you find that your anxiety is preventing you from doing the things you enjoy or need to do, it is vital that you seek professional help.

4. Learn to meditate. While meditation is a relaxation technique, it is actually a small action step you can take. The choice of making your mind and body become inactive is of itself an action against your anxiety. To meditate, you will want to take slow deep breaths in and out, concentrating on your breathing. This will allow your muscles to relax and your mind to focus on something other than your problems.

5. Make time for exercise. Start to schedule an exercise workout into your day. The endorphins released by your body when exercising will help you to relax. Regular exercise puts your body in a healthy rhythm. When you schedule in a daily exercise routine, you are making a built-in break from anxious situations.

6. Begin to journal. Using a journal can be a very good source of stress relief. This will give you a way to vent anything on your mind without the worry of offending anyone. Not only will journaling reduce your anxiety level, it will also help you to have a written record of your memories.

7. Consume a well balanced diet. By eating right, you will decrease your anxiety level. Take the time to figure out what you are consuming now and decide which items need to be eliminated. You will want to decrease your intake of the less nutritious food and take in more of the healthy foods your body needs. You may even want to begin taking a multivitamin.

8. Drink adequate amounts of water. This is a very simple action step, yet easily ignored. The healing power of water is truly amazing. You want to be certain to take in at least 8 glasses of clear liquids every day.

9. Start a hobby that you do outdoor. This could be anything from playing a sport, to hiking, to starting a garden. These activities give you some much-needed fresh air, as well as relieve stress by making you think about something other than your problems.

Reducing Anxiety

Reducing anxiety can be done by using a variety of methods. Take the time to list the things you feel help you relax the most and make time for at least one of these activities on a daily basis.

You will need to find a way to control your mind more effectively. Prevent your thoughts from controlling you or from running wild inside your head. Make sure that you allow yourself time to settle down and relax each night. Plus, remember to be easy on yourself. Stop expecting more of yourself than you would expect from someone else. When anxiety starts to get the best of people, they usually decide to do something about it. However, you can keep control of your anxiety by following the above tips.

One of the most common fatigue causes is anxiety, which is known to effect 40 million U.S. adults each year. Anxiety is a state of fear of real or imagined danger, which is manifested as increased heart rate, trembling, panic, weakness, extreme fatigue and stomach or intestinal discomfort. Anxiety disorders make up the largest mental illness diagnosis in the U.S.

Anxiety as a Fatigue Cause

One of the most common fatigue causes is anxiety. Anxiety creates a feeling of restlessness and is often accompanied by physical discomfort or pain, all of which can increase feelings of extreme fatigue and exhaustion. Additionally if anxiety is plaguing you, you might find that you can’t sleep through the night, furthering your extreme fatigue. The cycle of anxiety and fatigue are not easily broken. Outdoor activity adds an additional element of anxiety reduction because of the relaxing element of nature as you enjoy the outdoors. Acupuncture: Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine and is reputed to cure psychological disorders by inserting needles into the skin at points where the flow of energy is thought to be blocked. Some believe that it may be used to help reduce anxiety. Supplements: Adding a supplement such as Protandim to your daily routine, which triggers the creation of enzymes to eliminate free radical molecules in your body is known to help eliminate fatigue caused by anxiety. Reducing Stress with Self Hypnosis

We are constantly bombarded through the media with advertisements that are designed to make us feel unacceptable, unhappy, unfulfilled, over weight and in need of a quick fix.  Of course the quick fix is always the product or service being offered.  

Do you suffer from indigestion due to over eating…then drink this pink liquid and feel better…then do it again later so we can sell you some more pink liquid!  The last thing the people who make pink liquid want you to do is to learn to eat slowly, appreciate your food and stop when you begin to feel full!

The same is true with the economy, we have been conditioned to buy..buy..buy and never feel satisfied or fulfilled.  We always FEEL like we need the next best cell phone, or that cool pair of 0.00 running shoes because we have been programmed to respond that way through a constant stream of advertisements that tell us we are not good enough the way we are or with what we have. 

It’s no wonder that so many people are over stressed. Where are the positive, uplifting messages and images that tell us we are ok, that we can be happy, that we did a good job and that there is hope. 

Within each of us is a part of us known as the sub-conscious or unconscious mind. This part of our minds has the ability to process millions of bits of information every second and has access to everything we have ever learned or experienced in our lives, even if we can’t remember it consciously.  

Making friends with your unconscious mind can provide you with access to unlimited resources to make the changes you desire in your life. This includes finding new ways to help you reduce stress and increasing a sense of balance and calmness.

 

Here are 5 tips to help you begin to reduce the amount of stress in your life.

1) Reduce the amount of advertising and negative media that you allow in your life.  It always take effort to change the habit of listening to the radio or sitting in front of the tv. Don’t eliminate the entertainment, just the news and commercials! Switch to an MP3 player for your music source, watch DVDs or Video Tapes instead of sitcoms, or get yourself a Personal Video Recorder and fast forward through commercials!

2) Listen to your internal voice and notice whether the things you say to yourself are positive or negative.  When you make a mistake do you say to yourself “that was stupid” or worse “I’m so stupid” when faced with a challenge do you say “I can’t do that”?  Begin to re-state you internal dialog in a positive way when you catch yourself saying something negative, such as “I can’t do that…yet..but it’s going to be fun learning how” or ‘how can I learn to do this…and enjoy the process”. 

3) Make a list of things you are proud of, people you love, fun times you have had in the past.  When you are feeling stressed, go through the list and take the time to visualize those people, places and things and notice how it changes the way you feel.

4) Change your physiology!  When you are feeling stressed, change the way you breath, hold your shoulders back, stand or sit up straight and image what it would feel like to have just won the lottery…. How does that change the way you feel?  Change your physiology, then change your breathing and you will change the way you feel!  You can learn to control your state instead of allowing your state to control you!

5) Use self hypnosis recordings to empower yourself and tap the resources of your unconscious mind.  Hypnosis is deeply relaxing and allows your body to rest and repair while providing a positive experience.
