The White Rooster and the Little Red Hen – Good Advice for Tough Times

Unfortunately we don’t know who wrote this poem, apparently it has been around for a while, definitely since 1982, most probably longer. If you know who wrote it, let us know. It contains some good advice – maybe not what you want to hear, but this is the way it is!

“Said the big white rooster, “Gosh all Hemlock, things are tough,
Seems that worms are getting scarce and I cannot find enough.
What’s become of all those fat ones is a mystery to me;
There were thousands through the rainy spell, but now where can they be?”

The little red hen, who heard him, didn’t grumble or complain,
She had been through lots of dry spells, she has lived through floods of rain;
So she flew up on the grindstone and she gave her claws a whet,
And she said, “I’ve never seen a time there were no worms to get.”

She picked a new and undug spot; the earth was hard and firm.
The big white rooster jeered, “New ground! That’s no place for a worm.”
The little red hen spread her feet, she dug fast and free,
“I must go to the worms,” she said, “the worms won’t come to me.”

The Rooster vainly spent his day, through habit by the ways,
Where fat worms have passed in squads, back in the rainy days.
When nightfall found him supperless, he growled in accents rough,
“I’m as hungry as a fowl can be. Conditions sure are tough.”

He turned to the little red hen and said, “It’s worse with you,
For you’re not only hungry, but you must be tired too.
I rested while I watched for worms, so I feel fairly perk;
But how are you? Without worms too? And after all that work?”

The little red hen hopped to her perch and dropped her eyes to sleep,
And murmured, in a drowsy tone, “Young man, hear this and weep,
I’m full of worms and happy, for I’ve dined both long and well,
The worms were there, as always – but I had to dig like hell!”

Oh, here and there white roosters are still holding sales positions,
They cannot do much business now, because of poor conditions.
But as soon as things get right again, they’ll sell a hundred firms -
Meanwhile, the little red hens are out, a-gobbling up the worms.

How To Look After Your Pelvic Floor

On our blogtalk radio show today we had Kathi Janssens from http://www.discreetlyfit.com as our guest speaker. Her area of expertise is pelvic floor health.  Pelvic floor weakness affects at least 50% of women in one way or another. The symptoms can be quite mild (an occasional bladder “accident” to very severe (pelvic organ prolapse).  The condition is not talked about much and doesn’t get the publicity it deserves. I suppose it is not sensational enough.

Although about this time last year the pelvic floor made it to the headlines Read the rest of this entry »

Recently I watched a video which featured Loral Langemeier. I had never heard of her before. Apparently, she is a very well known wealth coach, author and speaker. She comes across as down to earth and practical.

Some of the things she had to say in this 1/2 hour video really resonated with me, so I thought I share them with you.

You have to learn to market and to sell and then gather a team around you to help you achieve your goals and dreams. Nobody functions well as a “lone ranger” it is simply too hard. Read the rest of this entry »

Naturopathy Awareness Week

By Connie On February 6th, 2009 in Mind & Body Connection /

This week is Naturopathy Awareness Week here in Australia. Lots of people are using natural therapies to look after their health or help them recover from illness.  The Naturopathic approach to disesease, health and healing differs from orthodox medicine in a number of ways.

Most naturopaths have a philosophical framework which forms the basis of their work. This framework usually includes body, mind and spirit. True healing cannot occur unless the imbalance between body, mind and spirit is addressed and the true cause of the illness is uncovered. The approach is wholistic taking into account all of the factors that are influencing the client’s health.

The remedies used and the healing methods which are applied vary greatly from practitioner to practitioner. Some of the more common ones are herbs, vitamins and minerals, foods as medicine, nutritional advice, homeopathic remedies, Bach Flower remedies and massage. The basic philosophy is that the remedies should be as close to nature as possible, have no harmful side effects and support the body to heal itself.

Exciting News – Soon We Are Launching Our First Book

The holidays are over and Charly and I are starting the New Year with one of our exciting projects – the launch of our first ever e-book.  After months of work our book is very close to becoming a reality.

The feedback we got so far has been great, this makes it all worthwhile.

What is the book all about? It is about “Stress”. We started writing this book well before the global financial crisis hit as hard as it did. Nobody could forsee the huge impact of all this turmoil. In those uncertain and stressful times it is all the more important that you understand “stress” and the effects it has on your mind and body and get some practical tools to manage it.

Stay tuned, more details coming soon.

Plug-in Developer Thank You Day

By Connie On February 3rd, 2009 in Blogging, Business building /
1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (No Ratings Yet)
Loading ... Loading ...

I am a bit late with this post, but it is never too late to practise some gratitude. Recently the number of available word-press plug-ins has reached 4000. A plug-in is a bit of code that makes it possible for your blog to do all sorts of nifty things. We have mentioned them in our radio shows and Charly has written a post or two about them.

This huge number of plug-ins  means a lot of people have spent a lot of hours writing those plug-ins and made them available for our use. Matt (or Matthew) Mullenweg (the creator of wordpress)  suggested to make January 28th an official “thank you day” for plug-in developers.

One idea is to actually go to the developer’s site and leave a nice comment and tell them that you are using their plug-in. Some developers have PayPal accounts and if you feel abundant you might want to make a small donation to your favourite developer’s account.

I had never put much thought into who actually created wordpress itself, what sort of person is actually behind this amazing tool that has opened up the web and the world to so many people. So I did some research and found Matt’s blog where he wrote a page about himself.  Here is an excerpt:

“The website says WordPress is “a state-of-the-art semantic personal publishing platform” but more importantly WordPress is a part of who I am. Like eating, breathing, music, I can’t not work on WordPress. The project touches a lot of people, something I’ve recently begun to appreciate. I consider myself very lucky to be able to work on something I love so much.”

Curious to read more? Here is a link to Matt’s blog:  http://ma.tt/about/

Maybe we should send Matt a message of gratitude as well……
