One of my mentors, Paul Blackburn, said something along the lines of: This is the first time in history that a lot of people have more opportunity than time. Throughout most of human history we had more time than opportunity…..

This is how things like arts and crafts, making instruments and music, dance and lots of other things may have evolved. When people had finished the chores necessary for survival like gathering food, hunting, finding shelter for the night etc. – they had time. The human mind being always busy and inquisitive found things to keep itself occupied. There was time to talk and sing, decorate dresses and make jewellery…..

The opposite is happening now and I think the perfectionists amongst us are having the hardest time. If you are the sort of person who just hates unfinished projects you are in for a tough time. Demands are literally “raining down” on us, technology supposedly is making everything “easy” and “quick”. People’s attention spans and levels of patience are regressing to the level of a 1 year old. If you can’t manage everything that is expected of you, well then you are just not trying hard enough or you just are not up with the latest technology. Maybe you waste too much time sleeping!!

Remember – you are still in control of your life. No matter what happens around you, you are the one who makes the decisions, you are the one who can say “no”, you are the one who can decide to drop some unnecessary commitments and you are the one who is ultimately responsible for your life.

Time is the one thing money cannot buy, once it is used, it is gone forever…so use it wisely.

Till next time
