Time Management – Fact or Fiction?
It is everywhere – the myth that if we only managed our time better and more efficiently we would get more done, we would get on top of things and we wouldn’t get stressed…..
Advice, hints and tips abound. Here are some that I have come across:
- Learn to speed read, so you can read many more pages in a fraction of time
- Play any audio recordings you buy or recordings of seminars you attend at double their original speed or faster, so you can listen to lots more in a fraction of the time. Some devices even take out the “mickey mouse voice effect” to make it a more pleasant experience
- Don’t waste one minute of your day letting your brain go idle or day dream – fill every moment either with listening to some audio, watching educational videos, speed reading….preferably do all this while doing another task as well so you get double value out of your time….
- There are waterproof speakers and pouches now for your various listening devices so you don’t have to waste time while having a shower or maybe you can do your laps at the pool and listen to the newest internet marketing advice…
I think this is a recipe for disaster. Most human beings cannot sustain this level of mental activity for prolonged periods of time. We need idle time, day dreaming time and “time out” – now more than ever before. I don’t believe that time management is the answer. I think it is a myth. There is a limit to human endurance on a mental level and I think we are way past it. The only way forward is to simplify, to reduce, to drop commitments and focus on fewer things and do them well….
You may not agree with me and that is ok. Maybe Charly has a different point of view as well….I hope that at least I provided some food for thought and I really would be interested in your views, leave us a comment.
Till next time
