Why we don’t like our recorded voice

It may have happened to you: you did an audio recording or a video and as you sit down to listen to it again, you don’t like the sound of your own voice or you think that your voice sounds really odd and strange. You may even think that if you only had better and more expensive equipment, things would be better.

Don’t blame the equipment. Soundwaves that get created when others speak reach our ear canal in the form of air waves. The way we hear our own voice is different. Our own voice causes the bones in our head vibrate. Our jawbone transmits that sound to our inner ear which then sends it to the brain. The transmission via bone distorts the low tones much more than the high sounds.

The end result is: when we hear our voice via air waves it sounds much higher than we normally perceive it.

There you go! Listen to your recorded voice because this is how others hear you! The sound of your voice is really important for presentations and recordings you put on your website.

Till next time,

Connie and Charly
